Earthquake relief and aid in Turkey and Syria
On the night of 5-6 February 2023, a 7.8 magnitude tremor struck Turkey and Syria with its epicentre near Gaziantep, causing over 50,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of injured and displaced persons. According to the United Nations, more than 10 million people were affected by the earthquake. This is the worst disaster in the region in 100 years.
Both Turkey and Syria have suffered extensive damage and the people severely affected by the earthquake are in urgent need of health and humanitarian assistance commensurate with the scale of the disaster.
Homes and hospitals have been destroyed or damaged, survivors remain cold and in shock. Millions of children are without shelter, food, water, sanitation and warm clothing.
The international community must do all it can to support humanitarian efforts to prevent a tragedy within a tragedy.
The most effective way to help is a donation
Your donation contributes to
- Distributing basic necessities, such as winter clothes and shoes, blankets, stoves, and hot meals to the most vulnerable people, families sheltered in temporary shelters and camps set up by the Red Crescent
- Treating the wounded at hospitals
- Distributing money to displaced people to rebuild a dignified life and existence.
